Line-faithful retyping · not OCR
Your scans, retyped.
Every line where it belongs.
Upload a scan of a printed page. Get back a typed, selectable PDF that keeps the line breaks, hyphen splits, and document layout intact — automatically, in about a minute.
- Real text selectable and searchable
- Fully automated · no human reviewers
ONE dollar and eighty-seven cents. That was all.
And sixty cents of it was in pennies. Pennies
saved one and two at a time by bulldozing the
grocer and the vegetable man and the butcher
until one’s cheeks burned with the silent im-
putation of parsimony that such close dealing
implied. Three times Della counted it. One
dollar and eighty-seven cents.
For scanned books, photos of old print, reviving print backlists, and archives that reject OCR junk.
How it works
Three steps. No plugins, no desktop app.
-
01
Upload the page
A clear photo or scan — JPG, PNG, TIFF, WEBP. Straight from your phone is fine.
-
02
AI engine reconstructs layout
AI vision reads the geometry of your page — every word, line, and margin. Then our typesetting engine rebuilds it as real type. The model reads; the engine writes.

Under the hood
Engineered retyping with modern AI vision.
Retype isn’t a prompt in a trench coat. AI vision reads your page; a deterministic typesetting engine rebuilds it as real type. The model reads — the engine writes.
Real, selectable type
Never an image with hidden text behind it. Copy it, search it, edit it.
Line-faithful layout
Line breaks, hyphen splits, paragraph spacing, justified and centered lines — where the source has them.
Italic & bold emphasis
Emphasis inside body text carries through to the typed page.
Tables & multi-column
Tables rebuilt as tables, column flow kept in reading order.
Typeface matching
Serif set to match the character of the source, with heading sizes and small caps preserved.
Built-in quality check
Every page is scored automatically, so you know at a glance which results deserve a second look.

FAQ
Common questions
Is Retype the same as OCR?
No. OCR guesses characters from pixels. Retype reads your page with AI vision, then rebuilds it as real typed text with line breaks, hyphenation, and layout preserved.
What file types can I upload?
JPG, PNG, TIFF, WEBP, and BMP. A clear phone photo or flatbed scan of one printed page works best.
Do you store my scans or PDFs?
No long-term storage. Files are processed to produce your PDF, then automatically deleted. Download your result while you’re on the site.
How many pages can I retype for free?
One page per email address. Need more? for bulk processing or high-volume work.
Can you handle a whole book or bulk pages?
Yes. Tell us your page count and material type — scanned books, old photos, archives. We can set up high-volume or enterprise processing.
Will the typed PDF match my original line breaks?
That’s the goal. Retype preserves line breaks, hyphen splits, and paragraph structure — line-faithful retyping, not a plain text dump.

Your uploads are yours.
You must hold the rights to anything you upload. We don’t build a library from your files, we don’t train on your documents, and we don’t store converted files online — upload, download, done.
